Er zijn twee redenen waarom Chiayi niet mag ontbreken op je rondreis door Taiwan. Het is de beste plek om vanuit hier het mooie nationale park Alishan te bezoeken. Maar daarnaast is het ook beroemd vanwege de food scene en authentieke Taiwanese gerechten die hier vandaan komen. Uiteraard heb ik de ‘fish head stew’ gegeten die ik kende uit de Netflix show Street Food: Asia, maar ik was vooral positief verrast door de gezellige cafés en restaurants in Chiayi.
