I unfortunately don’t have an unlimited budget to dine out (if only…). I’m not complaining, but let’s say that you won’t find me in restaurants with a Michelin star very often. Let alone a restaurant that has two!
So when you receive an email from a company asking if you want to try one of their experiences. And on that list of experiences is a 2 Michelin star lunch…You’d also do a little happy dance right?
The email came from TRULY. And what they offer are extraordinary experiences. For men, for women, for different occasions, and in different price -and interest categories. Even for people who have everything (Hello near-space odyssey!). I’m not one of those people (yet), so decided to stay on planet Earth for now and chose the two Michelin star lunch at The Square in London.
And making your choice is all you have to do. From then on the TRULY Concierge Team takes care of everything. They make the reservation on your behalf and the day before the experience you get a friendly reminder per email with all the information you need to know.
So last month Jaklien (Passport and Toothbrush) and I found our way to Mayfair for some lunching in style at The Square. And stylish it was. Tables with crisp white table linen, polished silver, and a friendly staff that’s ready to help before you’ve even asked for it.
Not the average lunch setting I usually find myself in the weekend. But then I also normally don’t eat three courses for lunch. As one does in a fancy two Michelin star restaurant.
As was expected, the food was absolutely delicious. This is French cooking at its best. I started with Oyster cream with langoustine claws, pickled cucumber, fennel and toasted English muffin. And Jaklien had the Hare bolognese with hand rolled linguine, fig leaf smoked pecorino, lardo di colonnata and red wine. Hungry yet?
For our main we both had the Roast breast of mallard with sweet parsnip tart, roasted chervil root, smoked bacon and blackberry. Wouldn’t mind having this every day.
And then it was time for dessert. They tried to tempt us with this amazing looking cheese cart, but we decided to stick with the menu and finish with something sweet.
Which was the Caramelized orange soufflé with toast ice cream for me. And Hazelnut chocolate pave with popcorn ice cream for Jaklien. How you manage to get ice cream to taste like popcorn or toast is still a mystery to me, but it really did. They don’t hand these Michelin stars out for nothing.
After we finished our dessert ánd the petit fours, it was time to go back to our normal – not so luxurious – life. This might not be something I get to do every week, but that’s what makes it such a nice gift. So thanks again TRULY for this wonderful experience!
