Mexico City has a thriving coffee culture and is full of artisan bakeries. Especially in the Roma Norte and Condesa neighborhoods, you’ll find trendy cafés on nearly every corner, with carefully roasted beans and pastries fresh from the oven. In this post, I’m sharing what I consider to be the best coffee shops and bakeries in Mexico City. Places I visited myself and would happily return to for a second cup or another pastry.
Panadería Rosetta

Yes, this one was already on my list of best breakfast spots in Mexico City, but bakery Panadería Rosetta is simply too good not to include here as well. The mix of Mexican and French influences, the iconic guava roll (you have to try it!), and the cozy atmosphere make it one of the top places for both coffee and something sweet on the side.

Odette

You’ll spot the red takeaway bags from Odette from a distance. Everyone near Parque México seems to be carrying one. And for good reason. This elegant patisserie offers beautifully crafted pastries, perfect to take with you or enjoy on the small terrace outside.

I tried the ‘kouign amann frambuesa’, a gorgeous pastry with a fresh raspberry filling. Not too sweet, just right. The coffee was fine, but you really come here for the baked goods.

Saint

Saint is clearly a favorite, especially on weekends. And I get why. There are outdoor tables that are perfect for people-watching, and inside you’ll find a bakery where everything looks amazing.
My flat white was one of the best I had in Mexico City. I wasn’t planning on ordering food, but the almond pain au chocolat was calling my name. So good!

Buna

If you’re serious about your coffee, head to Buna. They roast their own beans (at La Laguna) and have several locations. I visited the one at Laguna and in Condesa, which had a calm, stylish vibe and was the perfect place to linger for a while.
The coffee is expertly brewed and clearly made with care. Ideal if you’re looking to escape the city buzz for a moment.

Borel

Sometimes you stumble across a place that just feels right. That’s what happened when I found Borel in Condesa. I was on my way to Chapultepec Castle and spotted the wooden tables and green chairs of a lovely terrace on the corner. So I simply had to stop.
The café was full of locals enjoying their weekend, either inside or outside in the sun. My coffee was served in a ceramic mug and tasted amazing, just like the cinnamon bun I ordered with it.

Café Nin

Café Nin is housed in a gorgeous old building and has the kind of charm that makes you want to stay all morning. At the center is a bar with an impressive display of oversized cookies, cakes, and other irresistible treats.
I had tea here, so I can’t speak to the coffee, but the vibe alone makes it worth visiting. You can sit at the bar inside, outside on the terrace, or in the quiet inner courtyard. I’m definitely coming back to try the breakfast, which comes highly recommended.

Raku Cafe

Raku is a small, minimalist café in Roma Norte with a Japanese feel. It’s mostly a grab-and-go kind of place, but there are a few tables outside if you want to enjoy your coffee right there.
Address: Sinaloa 188, Roma Norte, Mexico City
Cumbé

Cumbé often gets recommended as one of the best coffee shops in Mexico City by people who look beyond the Instagram-worthy interior. Though to be fair, there’s nothing wrong with the decor, it’s very charming. You can sit inside or outside, with a few tables on the sidewalk.
The setting is lovely and has a laid-back, alternative vibe. I had a nice time sitting outside, though the coffee wasn’t my favorite in the city. But I suspect that was due to a ‘lost in translation’ mix-up with my order, because the coffee at the table next to mine looked spot-on.
Since I had just eaten breakfast, I skipped the sweets this time, but they looked amazing.

The perfect spot for every coffee moment
Whether you’re starting your day slowly, taking a mid-walk coffee break, or just craving something sweet, there’s no shortage of great coffee shops and bakeries in Mexico City. Honestly, if it weren’t for all the things to see and do in this city, I could have happily spent entire days just hopping from café to café.
